Forget just filling fine lines and wrinkles – the new buzzword in anti-aging techniques is “volumizing” and this newly approved treatment does just that.
Sculptra® Aesthetic, recently approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, brings a brand new option for women hoping to reverse visible signs of aging and revitalize their look. It provides a new, effective and less invasive way to target the lines and wrinkles that form on the face as we lose volume (fullness) with age and the results are long-lasting – up to two years.

Sculptra® Aesthetic is a “volumizer,” rather than just a wrinkle filler. It works by addressing the underlying cause of wrinkles and fine lines, particularly the loss of collagen, a fibrous protein that gives skin its strength and elasticity, but breaks down as we age.
In some people, the breakdown of collagen also results in major changes to the contours of their face. Sculptra® Aesthetic offers a revolutionary way to counteract that, restoring the face to its natural shape.
Previously, patients who needed this sort of facial contouring would undergo surgical fat injections, a technique that is actually two procedures in one – liposuction to remove fat from the body, followed by injections of that fat into the face.
With Sculptra® Aesthetic liposuction is not required, so it can be done on an outpatient basis, which is both safer and less expensive, with few side effects.
Sculptra® Aesthetic is injected into the deep dermis in a series of treatments by a Sculptra-trained physician. It works over time. So it is important to go to all of the recommended treatment sessions - typically three or four treatments over several months. Each session builds upon the previous session to provide more subtle, natural results.
People who should not use the product include anyone with an allergy to any of the product’s ingredients, or those whose bodies produce extreme scarring (keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring). Sculptra® Aesthetic also should not be injected when a person is battling an active skin infection or inflammation near the treatment area.
